If you are searching for low-interest higher education loan services, you simply need to contact Federal Student Aid (FSA).
An arm of the US Department of Education, it provides several educational financial assistance services to students in the US. It provides not only student loans at low-interest rates, but even grants-in-aid and work study programs.
It oversees a total of $448 billion of fund money earmarked by the US federal government towards student loans. Not only information about its services is available to the English speaking community, but same is available even in Spanish. The reason for this is the considerable population of Spanish speaking students in the US.
The educational finance services provided by FSA cover tuition fees, supplies and books, board and room charges, and transportation. The education it facilitates includes both that in public and private school institutions, in trade schools, and even in career schools.
As you may know it administers grant-in-aid services to needy students for which the students do not need to repay the fiscal assistance they obtain from FSA. The grant amount usually is for providing education to students at the undergraduate level. Three basic factors decide the amount of each grant namely, the quantum of need, the attendance costs, and the enrollment status.
For low-income and middle-income group students, FSA provides Federal Pell Grants. In addition, it provides indirect assistance to school students through the FSEOG (Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant) program. Under the program, FSA provides funding assistance to school managements, who then administer the grant to individual students.
Another grant that the FSA provides is known as the ACG (Academic Student Grant). It is meant for full-time undergraduate students. The ACG grant amount is stepped up in the second year of the grant to a student.
Some undergraduate students study computer science, physical science, mathematics, engineering, technology, a foreign language important for national security, or life science in the third and fourth year of their course. They can obtain another grant from FSA. It is the Science and Math Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant.
Another category of educational service that FSA provides is in the form of a repayable loan. The loan is available to students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as to parents of dependent students studying at undergraduate level.
The loans available to students directly are known as Stafford loans and those to parents are known as PLUS loans. A Direct Loan program of FSA is the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. Under it, needy parents and students can ask the federal government directly for educational loans. Such direct loans include the Direct Stafford loans, Direct Consolidation Loans, and the Direct PLUS loans.
Another important loan program administered by FSA is the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL). This category of educational loans is facilitated through private lenders who provide funds which are guaranteed by the federal government. In this case the word FFEL precedes the Stafford, PLUS, or the Consolidation Loans.
